The process of integrating new personnel into a company and helping them adjust to a new role and environment is known as employee onboarding. Effective onboarding can play a critical role in the organizational success and the employee (Pappas, 2023).

Phases of Employee Onboarding

Preboarding stops on the day of their first day of employment after the new hire accepts the job offer.

Orientation usually begins on the first day of work and it comprises acquainting new hires with the policies, practices, and rewards of the organization. It also involves manager and colleague introductions, as well as a workplace tour.

Training will be given during the first three months. It equips the new hire with the abilities, know-how, and tools necessary perform their job well.

Integration provides chances, feedback, and continuous assistance to help the new hire become an engaged and productive member of the team.

(Torre, 2023)

Why is onboarding important?

Although onboarding may seem like a necessary procedure for hiring new staff, getting it done correctly has many advantages for the individual as well as the organization.

 Improved Retention

If the new employees are made to feel encouraged and welcomed during the onboarding process, they are more likely to stay in the company long-term (Carucci, 2018). For an example, if the employee has a good impression on the organization from the first day onwards, they are going to retain for a long time.

Increased Productivity

When new hires receive the proper training and assistance during onboarding, they feel more at ease in their roles and can start out more productively (Jain, 2023).

Enhanced job satisfaction

A new hire's entire work experience can be influenced by a successful onboarding process as it can foster a supportive relationship between new hires and management (Jain, 2023).

Better alignment with business objectives

New hires might feel more engaged and committed in their work by learning about the mission, values, and goals of the organization during the onboarding process.

Reduced Costs

As an HR professional or business owner, you don't want to be hiring for the same position repeatedly because turnover can be costly. Effective onboarding, however, can lessen the chance that new hires will leave the organization (Franz, 2023).

Conclusion

Employee onboarding is an essential procedure that greatly influences organizational success and establishes the impacts for a employees’ journey in an organization. Businesses can create an environment where new hires feel competent, engaged, and part of the team right away by methodically guiding them through the preboarding, orientation, training, and integration phases.
